What you'll need
  • An iPhone, iPad or Android phone
  • For Copilot: optionally a Microsoft, Apple or Google account
  • For Gemini: a Google account
  1. Copilot: find it in your app store

Open the App Store (iPhone/iPad) or Google Play (Android) and search for Microsoft Copilot. Check the publisher is Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft says the iPhone app needs iOS 16 or later.

  2. Copilot: install and sign in

Tap Get or Install, then open it. You can sign in with a personal Microsoft account, Apple account or Google account. Signing in lets you keep your chat history.

💡 On a Windows 11 PC? Copilot usually comes pre-installed. Look for it on the taskbar or Start menu.
  3. Gemini on Android: you may already have it

On many Android phones Gemini is the built-in assistant. Try opening the Gemini app, or long-pressing the power button (on some phones). If it's not there, search Google Play for Gemini and check the publisher is Google LLC. Google says it needs Android 9 or newer and at least 2 GB of memory.

💡 Heads-up: switching to Gemini replaces Google Assistant as your phone's main assistant.
  4. Gemini on iPhone or iPad

In the App Store, search for Google Gemini and check the developer is Google. Install it, open it, and sign in with your Google account to save your chats.

  5. Start chatting

Type in the box, or tap the microphone to speak. Gemini also has a Live option for a spoken conversation.

⚠️ Same rules as any chatbot: skip copycat apps, double-check important answers and keep private details out.
🎉 All done!
